Day 5 of Nash Family Visit

Joe got to play doctor today. He spent the day with Kevin and Felix on surgery. He rounded with them on D ward. He decided
that everyone has TB when you don't know what is really going on with them. Being a lawyer, he didn't understand all the doctor lingo, but still found it interesting. After rounds, he got to go into surgery. Some of the bigger cases were cancelled, but he still got to see 2 tubal ligations, and an internal fixation of a fracture. Having never seen any surgeries before, he enjoyed it. He also enjoyed the chocolate cake which Leslie made for the OT crew at lunch.

After lunch, the whole family headed out to PE class for the MKs. Today we started ultimate frisbee, which Kristen is teaching. Megan and Joe participated in the drills as I watched Luke, then we all joined into play. Megan was holding Luke and running around catching the frisbee. After a while, he got a little bored, but enjoyed just watching from the sideline. Megan and Joe had fun, and the kids enjoyed having them play.

After PE, we headed to the Bennetts to get their souvenirs. I had gotten Megan a bilum, a bag made out of string, which everyone here - guys and girls, carry around. I got Joe and Luke bush knives (machetes). Gideon is a local guy who does burning into bamboo and other wood, so he burned their names, and some designs on the handle for them. Luke is a little small for his knife currently, but I know he will grow into it.

We enjoyed a spaghetti dinner at the Myers house tonight. We had a good evening with Jeff, Susan, Jessica, and Ethan. Megan was impressed with the new cabbage dish, which included peanuts, poppy and sesame seeds. The Myers are looking forward to their upcoming furlough in August, they are heading to South Africa before they go home for a safari. Megan and Joe enjoyed learning more about furloughs and what they do.
