Nathaniel was one of the first patients I cared for with cancer when I got here. Thankfully for him, he had Burkitt's lymphoma, which is very responsive to chemotherapy. He went from a kid with a very swollen cheek to a normal looking kid after about 1 yr of chemotherapy. I hadn't seen him since his last treatment, but about a month ago he came back (2 yrs since starting tx). His mom was concerned by a small swelling of one of his lymph nodes in his neck, but I was able to reassure her that it was quite normal. What a treat to see a cancer patient who is no longer on chemo and who is doing well, if only they could all turn out like this.
