Hydro Gates Installed

Dam before gates
Gate being lifted up

This week the gates to the Hydro Dam were installed.  To simplify the process: the water was diverted, a big mound of gravel was constructed, the excavator lifted up the gates and then carefully placed them in place.  I am sure it was a lot more complicated than that, but what I do know is that there are now 3 gates that can control the water level for the hydro dam.
The dam itself is almost finished.  They were waiting for the gates to come, so that the water could still be diverted for their installation.  Now that the gates are installed, the dam is being finished, as the water has been diverted back through the gates.

The canal is finished with gates covering the entrance to the canal and to the penstock pipe, to protect anyone or anything from falling in accidently.  The outside of the hydro house is almost finished, but lots more to be done to get the turbine generator installed and to get it all running.
Earl and his team has done an amazing job putting this all together, and we are thankful that Earl and his family will be staying with us for another year.  We also have a team coming this month to help Earl and team as they complete the project.  Part of the completion process is to put up all new power lines and poles over the whole station, which will be a big job.  A hydro opening ceremony has been scheduled for the end of this month.
