It has been almost 2 yrs now that Margaret came to us with recurrent ovarian cancer. We were able to treat her with paclitaxel, a great chemotherapy medicine against ovarian cancer, that we had practically donated to us, which enabled her to spend more time on this earth with her family. Now however, the paclitaxel is gone, and Margaret's cancer is now recurring.
I have seen her 3 times in the past 3 months, each time for the removal of the fluid of her abdomen, but she refused medicines, until today. She has reiterated numerous times that her life is in the hands of God and if He wants to take her, she is okay with that and if He wants to cure her, she is okay with that too.
Today when I saw her, she had a palpable mass in her lower abdomen and lots of fluid in her belly. As I drained the fluid, she asked what other options we had. I told her not many, but she was interested in trying some meds again, all the while saying she is trusting God.
As a doctor, it is so reassuring to know that the person who is battling cancer and is soon going to die, knows the Lord and is okay with dying. It is hard to face death day after day when patients are in denial, are grasping for anything to help and don't know the Lord. I too trust Margaret and all my patient's into the Lord's hands, knowing that He alone is the giver and taker of life.
