Every so often a helicopter lands here in the field office field and we rece
ive a patient. We never know these patients are coming or what we might expect when the helicopter lands. This week, amidst a very busy outpatient day, we got one of these patients. This guy had had a stroke, and unfortunately didn't live more than an hour or so from when he arrived. I am not exactly sure who has the helicopters and who pays for these transports, but I know they show up. In my year+ here, this is only the 1st or maybe 2nd patient that I know of us receiving. Other docs talk about different patients that they have received at various times, so I guess we just never know when the next one might show up.
