Many of us have enjoyed watching Food Network shows and have thought it would be fun to have our own Kudjip Chopped.  After lots of brainstorming and planning, we had our 1st Kudjip Chopped this past Saturday.  Danielle Stephenson, Scott Dooley, Scott Pringle and Randy Goossens were excited to show off their culinary skills.  Emma Dooley, Andy Bennett, Tim Deuel and Esther Crouch were excited to judge the competition, knowing their years of eating food would come in handy for this difficult job.  The mission family came out to enjoy this event and to taste the culinary masterpieces that were created by our chefs.  Rachel was our host for the afternoon and shared interesting facts about our contestants, judges and food trivia for our audience.

The mystery baskets for appetizers were: Shape crackers, grilled eggplant in a jar, Heinz ham sauce baked beans and caruca nuts (PNG delicacy).  Our chefs were quite creative making a pie, gumbo, sausage and crostini crackers.  Scott Pringle's chopped experience ended after this round.  Our dinner basket included turkey legs, plum in syrup, zucchini and Hi-Way beef crackers.  The audience sure enjoyed eating these dishes that our chefs created.  The decision was hard for the judges, but Scott Dooley's chopped experience ended after this round.  So with Randy and Danielle remaining, the last mystery basket was revealed and contained strawberry and banana jello, rambutan and Weetbix.  Thinking this could be difficult with the rambutan and Weetbix, these chefs showed their culinary mastery and created a crumble and a fruit creation.  The judges had a difficult decision, but Danielle was named our First Kudjip Chopped Champion.

Having our own Kudjip Chopped was a little different than watching it on TV.  Thankfully, the whole mission family pitched in and helped in dishwashing, clean up, organizing and coming to watch to make it a success.  We hope to do it again in the future.
